Driving Member Engagement Online
Practical strategies to turn a static association website into an active member hub — content, communication, and community that keep members coming back.
Member engagement is the quiet metric behind retention. Associations that keep members active online renew more of them, hear from them sooner, and spend less time chasing lapsed accounts. The website is your most scalable engagement channel — if you treat it like a living product rather than a static site.
Give members a reason to return
Engagement follows value. Members come back for things they cannot get elsewhere: timely market updates, exclusive education, and tools that make their day easier.
- Timely content: short, regular updates beat occasional long ones.
- Exclusive resources: members-only material justifies the login.
- Useful tools: MLS search, forms, and CE tracking they actually use.
Communicate where members are
Email that links back
Every newsletter should drive traffic to the site, where the full experience lives. Treat email as the trailhead, not the destination.
Personalization
When the AMS feeds your site, you can show members content relevant to their status, region, or interests. Relevance is the cheapest engagement lever you have.
Measure what matters
Track logins, repeat visits, and event sign-ups — not raw pageviews. These tell you whether members are getting value, which is the only engagement signal that predicts renewal.

Frequently Asked Questions
The questions associations actually ask — your AMS, your MLS, who runs the site, what happens to your existing links, and what it costs.
Do we have to replace our AMS?
No. TaliCMS is the public website. Your membership records, dues and NRDS data stay in the system that holds them today. We connect to it.
Will it work with our MLS?
Almost certainly. We run three different MLS data standards in production — RESO Web API, Trestle and legacy RETS. Tell us which MLS you're on and we'll tell you straight away.
Can our staff really run it without a developer?
Yes, and that's the main design goal. Pages are built from pre-styled blocks, changes are previewed before publishing, and every edit is reversible.
How long does it take?
Columbus REALTORS® — 9,400 members, full platform — went live in twelve weeks. Your timeline depends mostly on how quickly decisions get made and how long your MLS takes to approve feed access.
What happens to our existing website and its links?
We crawl and archive the whole site first, then map every old address to its new home so bookmarks, newsletter links and search results keep working. After launch we re-check every link and fix what broke.
What does it cost?
It depends on your integrations, how much content you're migrating, and your timeline — so any number before that conversation would be a guess. Tell us what MLS you're on, roughly how many pages you have and when you need to be live, and we'll give you a real number.
